Shuttle Tip: Regulating Shuttle Focus by Creating and Deleting Settings

Shuttle Focus
The ShuttlePRO v2 and ShuttleXpress driver automatically detects the application you are working in and uses the appropriate settings. You can check to see which setting the Shuttle is using by resting your cursor over the Shuttle icon in the Windows Taskbar or clicking the Shuttle Icon in the Mac Taskbar. A small window will appear telling you which application has the focus. The Shuttle driver has multiple settings for some applications. In these instances, it is necessary to manually select which setting you would like to use by clicking on the Shuttle icon and selecting it from the list. To change settings, click on the Shuttle icon, and choose 'Open Control Panel' (Windows) or 'Shuttle Settings...' (Mac).

Deleting Settings
As stated, certain applications have multiple pre-configured settings installed within the Shuttle driver. It can be helpful to delete any settings you will not use to reduce the options in the Applications Setting list, which will improve the Shuttle’s focus when trying to find the appropriate setting. A good example would be Adobe Premiere Pro. The Shuttle driver includes multiple versions of settings for this application. Deleting the settings you are not using ensures that the proper settings for your application are always located by the Shuttle driver.

Start by clicking the Shuttle icon and then select 'Open Control Panel' (Windows) or 'Shuttle Settings…' (Mac). Choose the unnecessary setting in the drop-down list under 'Application setting.'

Next, click the 'Options' button, and select 'Remove settings' (Windows) or choose 'Remove Settings...' from the same drop down menu (Mac). Repeat as needed.

Creating New Settings
The ShuttlePRO v2 and the ShuttleXpress allow you to create your own settings for any software application in which keyboard shortcuts can be used. The Shuttle driver will search for the application and matching setting by name. When you create a new setting, you tell the Shuttle Driver where to locate the application on your computer and which setting you would like to use with that application. (Otherwise, the Shuttle may not be able to match the application you're using to the corresponding setting.)

Windows Users
Start by clicking the Shuttle icon and then select 'Open Control Panel.' To streamline the setup process, we recommend that you copy an existing setting so that each Shuttle step is already programmed for you. Start with the setting that you would like to copy in the drop-down menu under 'Application setting.' Then, click the 'Options' button and choose 'Create new settings>Copy contents from current settings.' A window will open asking you to select the target application. Navigate to Program Files on your C: Drive and highlight the executable file of the program. Then, click 'Open.'

Your new setting file will be selected in the 'Application setting' drop-down menu.

Click the 'Options' button and select 'Rename settings' to name your new setting. We suggest that you begin the new setting name with the name of the application it's intended for - to make it easier for the Shuttle to locate and easier to find in the drop down menu. In this example, we have named the setting 'Adobe Premiere - new.'

Mac Users
Start by clicking the Shuttle icon and then select 'Shuttle Settings...' To streamline the setup process, we recommend that you copy an existing setting so that each Shuttle step is already programmed for you. Start with the setting that you would like to copy in the drop down menu under 'Application setting.' Then choose 'Create New Settings…' from the same drop down menu and click 'OK.' A window will open asking you to Choose a File. Navigate to the Applications folder of your hard drive and highlight the executable file of the program. Then, click 'Choose.'

A pop-up window will appear asking you to name your new setting. We suggest that you begin the new setting name with the name of the application it's intended for - to make it easier for the Shuttle to locate and easier to find in the drop down menu. In this example, we have named the setting 'Adobe Premiere - new.'

Now you're ready to customize the setting any way you like. When you have the setting just right, be sure to click 'Apply' before closing the Contour Shuttle Device Configuration panel. You can also save or export settings to your computer for safekeeping. To share your work with others, and save them some time with setting up their own Shuttle, feel free to post your settings on the Contour Design Shuttle Forum!
