Generate realistic textures such as Steel Plates, Bricks, Wooden Planks, and Rock with the new Boris Continuum Materials Unit. The textures are procedurally-generated to ensure smooth render at any scale. A new Boris Continuum Unit, Image Restoration, is now available. The Boris Continuum Image Restoration Unit includes the Smooth Tone, Pixel Fixer, and DV Fixer filters from Boris Continuum Complete 6:

• BCC Smooth Tone - an "electronic makeup" tool for saving shots with skin blemishes or substandard makeup while preserving sharpness and full image detail. A great tool for working with "talking heads" and on-camera interview footage.

• BCC Pixel Fixer - removes bad pixels resulting from a faulty digital camera sensor or dust on a camera lens. Up to 10 bad spots can be repaired with a single filter application - without any degradation of image quality or sharpness.

• BCC DV Fixer - removes jaggies and DV compression artifacts from footage originated on consumer DV cameras.

Boris FX Announces New Boris Continuum Unit: Motion Tracker

Boris FX announced that a new Boris Continuum Unit, Motion Tracker, is now available. The Boris Continuum Motion Tracker Unit includes the Corner Pin, Match Move, Wire Remover, and Witness Protection filters from Boris Continuum Complete 6:

• BCC Corner Pin allows editors to map media to a specific area on a moving object in a media file. For example, if a media file includes a moving bus with an advertisement on its side, an editor could use Corner Pin to track and replace the advertisement with a logo.

• BCC Match Move locks the movement of one image clip to another image clip. One of the great advantages of using the Match Move filter is that it includes full DVE functions such as tumble, spin, and rotate along with interesting lighting and light wrap compositing features.

• BCC Wire Remover removes wires and unwanted objects from still or moving images by either cloning or blending pixels together from surrounding areas.

• BCC Witness Protection allows editors to track the motion of an object in a media file. Editors can then use the motion path data to control another aspect of the effect. For example, an editor can track a logo on a t-shirt and use a blur to obscure the logo. Mosaic, tint, or brightness/contrast effects could also be applied to the specified area.

Boris Continuum Motion Tracker supports Apple Final Cut Pro, Apple Final Cut Express, Apple Motion, and Adobe After Effects. Apple's new Final Cut Studio 3 release is supported.

• BCC Cartoon Look - BCC Cartoon Look simulates the look of cartoon rotoscope animation which was recently popularized with feature films such as "A Scanner Darkly" and "Waking Life" and may also be seen in memorable advertisement campaigns for The Charles Schwab Corporation. The filter includes many preset looks and styles, all available via the filter's preset pop-up menu. Users can even make their own presets and apply them to any other clip in any project. • BCC Pencil Sketch - The BCC Pencil Sketch filter simulates the look of a hand-drawn pencil-sketched image. Simply apply this filter to an image clip to emulate the look of an animated pencil-drawn sketch. The filter includes apply modes which can be used to blend the generated pencil lines with the original image to produce unique stylized looks

• BCC Charcoal Sketch - The BCC Charcoal Sketch filter simulates the painterly look of an image that was created using charcoals. Simply drop the filter onto any clip and the image is immediately transformed into a charcoal sketch. The filter includes easy-to-use pop-ups to determine the weight or line width and the desired level of detail.

• BCC Watercolor - Watercolor paint-style images can easily be generated from any source material with the addition of the BCC Watercolor filter. This filter includes the ability to control the color and weight of the contour edges as well as the desired level of contouring. Users can save their own preset looks or use the included user-modifiable preset looks to generate wash or watercolor effects.

Film Process, Film Damage, Match Grain, Film Grain, Deinterlace, and Prism

The new Boris Continuum Film Look Unit includes the following plug-ins:

* Film Process: The Film Process plug-in can help "filmize" digital video by deepening the color response range of the digital image to emulate film's dynamic color range. It can also be used to color grade and mimic an infinite variety of analog lens filters, optical processes, and special effects. This capability allows for a broader aesthetic and creative palette that filmed imagery offers - but without the higher cost of 35mm film production.

* Film Damage: Film Damage simulates the appearance of old film stock. You can add scratches, grain particles, hair or fibers, and dirt, dust, or water spots. You can also simulate camera shake or a flickering image.

* Match Grain: Match Grain takes a snapshot of telecined media and generates a grain signature which can be used as a matching grain sample for a destination clip containing little or no grain. A common application of this filter is adding grain to computer-generated imagery to lend to a more realistic composite. Match Grain can also be used to grain footage shot on video so it edits more seamlessly into a sequence with telecined media.

* Film Grain: The Film Grain plug-in creates an auto-animated noise effect designed to simulate the appearance of grain particles in the emulsion of movie or photo film.

* Deinterlance: The Deinterlace plug-in converts interlaced video clips into progressive-scan frames, such as footage shot on film. Deinterlace can render "simulated telecine" style by adding pulldown. This filter can also convert 29.97fps NTSC video into 24fps film-style frames.

* Prism: Prism is typically used to simulate the photographic effect of chromatic aberration in which a bad lens can generate prismatic color fringing along edges of high contrast within the image.
